Jumbo Supermarkets (700 supermarkets in the Netherlands and Belgium) is the second largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands. Jumbo is known for its 7 certainties and lowest price guarantee. To comply with the EU’s requirements regarding financial and sustainability reporting, Jumbo joined forces with CF Report in 2023. Together, we focused on realizing an online annual report in which the first steps towards CSRD compliancy were set out clearly. To this end, use was made of the reporting tool F19.
Strategy
Value chain as the basis
As a family business, Jumbo has its own specific DNA. Corporate Social Responsibility is strongly embedded in Jumbo’s DNA. Therefore, it is not surprising that the social aspect of ESG has the highest value for Jumbo. For the first step towards CSRD compliancy, the choice was made to use the value chain as the framework for the 2023 annual report. Insight was provided into Jumbo’s chain responsibility and corresponding impacts through interviews with various key stakeholders from the whole chain. Through the personal story of, for example, a sustainable cheese producer, a warehouse employee, a proud in-store baker, and an HR manager within Jumbo, as well as with an end customer, Jumbo’s value chain and its impact in the chain has become much more tangible.

Focus on Digital Reporting
In addition, Jumbo opted for Digital Reporting. Instead of only focusing on the traditional PDF format for their annual report, Jumbo wanted to focus on the creation of a comprehensive fully-fledged online annual report. Based on a new future-proof vision on digital reporting, the annual report was generated using the reporting platform F19. With elements such as a powerful video trailer, a data platform, topline content, performance dashboards, and a CEO video in which the most important highlights were discussed and visualized in a very personal manner. The result is an inspiring example of reporting for many companies!
