With annual revenue totalling €44bn, Continental AG operates in the highly competitive market of rubber and rubber applications in automotive, mobility and safety technology. The company’s operating profit is determined entirely by sales volume and margins. Given that Continental Automotive Purchasing procures material and semi-finished products worldwide, effective procurement and monitoring of global procurement streams is essential for enduring growth.
Having transparent and continuously up-to-date figures and analyses available quickly and effectively is a business-critical requirement for management and procurement. The new system delivers over forty reports covering more than 150,000 data points every three months. Summaries of these reports are used as input for decision making by top-level management and the board of directors. Departing from a situation where there was little consistency in data structure and reports, C&F Report conducted extensive data analyses, defined KPI, and designed a UX/UI to develop a complete reporting desk that enables Continental Automotive Purchasing to report better, more effectively and quicker.
The solution was developed using VBA code in Microsoft Office365, combined with a smart add-in. Various views (at regional, divisional, and business unit level) are generated from a modular data and template structure. The complex reporting cycle and large number of reports are extensively streamlined thanks to the modular set-up of smart data, reference data, and read-outs. It is furthermore easy to put together management summaries of the reports in PowerPoint, while retaining all links between data points and the underlying Excel reports. The C&F Report-developed reporting desk helps minimise the ‘change gap’ by delivering continuously up-to-date procurement and risk information and making data available across the Continental community on an ‘on-brand’ basis.
